Just won the Pasadena McDonald's Invitational and man is it a good feeling. We played Austin Westlake, a team that didn't have one black kid in a uniform even the coaching staff, but it was still a great game to the very end. It was like a huge sigh of relief as that buzze sounded and the score was 50-47. Most people out there a.k.a CRITICS say we don't have chemistry and we don't step up to good competition, well please tell me the last time a non-gelled team was able to win this Tournament? hen eveything is rolling we are hard team to stop. Words from the tournament M.V.P. .. M.C.C.M.D.

Today is the first day of "official" practice so I know everybody is excited. Lately we've been focusing on the small things like loose balls, charges, and rebounds outside your area and feel that these things will get us down to Austin. Going into practice today everyone is going to have a focused mindset so we will be able to have a crisp practice and leave on time. Hope all goes well.. M.C.C.M.D.

Feels really good to write another diary. Lately, I've been studying for the SATs' and though it was my first official one I feel I did pretty well. One thing I learned from taking the test is that english, primarily vocabulary, and math are two of the key factors in that test. If you know both of those subjects then you basically set. And for the incoming freshmen who slacks off in class, trust me pay attention more because the higher your GPA then the lower your qualifying grade will be for any school you're trying to go to. Oh yeah I had some interesting comments on facebook the other night so my next diary will be directing those who chooses to throw slugs, or talk down on us, told you once and told you for all we not the same team as LAST YEAR!!!! Attitude is one thing every team deals with. Whether its players getting into it with teammates, screaming at your coaches, trying to fight the other team, at home issues or even CRITICS poking their noses into teams and kids take that offensive. One thing you should always do whenever faced with these situations is just think about your attitude. Attitude plays a huge role in basketball and I learned that out at a young age so I'm lucky, but I know there's some kids nowadays who feel they should let their emotions take over and forget everything else. That's what your opponent wants you to do because whenever you let emotions get in the way of something you always end up losing since you can't concentrate on what you're trying to do. If you want your emotions to be felt by your opponent then there's no need for trash talking, just simply EMBARRASS him on the court. Let your game speak for you and everything else fall into Play.... (M.C.C.M.D.)

Just finished wrapping up my usual workouts with Gaston today, ended at 10 p.m.. It was tough today but I already know in the end it's worth it all. Just like my high school coach always say, "keep the end in mind," now I know why he says that. It's like this, your'e only going to get out whatever you put in, and usually the one who puts in the most work in the end along with talent and God's blessing will hear their named called in the first round of the NBA draft. I'm trying to see if I can workout my skills on the perimeter because there's nothing wrong with having a above average skill set, especially for a face-up forward. I know for sure that's a plus to you and all the college coaches recruiting you because now the game is far more advanced then it was before. Heck, it was just yesterday that I was watching NBA tv and it was like a game from the 1970's, everybody moving so slow it was so boring to watch. But now you have 6'9 wings and 6'10 guards it's ridiculous, that's why if you truly want to be the best you have to work at it because you're not the only one with that dream to be called first. Lol.. Let me be the first to say, Today was a good day.. Just finished our fall game at Bellaire, first victim off the list was Galena Park. As soon as the game started it was a slaughter waiting to happen, matter of fact I don't think they had anybody over 6 ft so this was a cake walk.. We are trying to do this new style of play where we press and trap everywhere and the bigs block shots in the back and if you ask anybody who was at the game today im pretty sure they'll tell you that it's working.. This year is a new year for us.. Last year we had a whole bunch of critics tell us that we were overrated and we wouldn't be able to break the press.. Well let's see if a team tries to press us this year because im warning you ahead of time all it's gonna be is a highlight film for US.... Dont believe me? check us out at Bellaire on Wednesday for fall league, then y'all can start having your opinions about us.. Oh yea don't be shocked if the term Phi Slamma Jamma comes to your mind because that's all we're about!!!!!!!! M.C.C.M.D.

Man… Was it me or did the summer just blow by like that. I could have sworn that I was just hearing the bells of Bellaire high ring and Mr. Salem (the principal) yelling over the loud speaker,"Have a great summer", and before you knew it I’m back in this joint. School, just something you got to learn how to love I guess.. Well anyways, what’s up hoopers and when I say that I mean everybody from retired players to kids just learning the game. As y’all should know by now, this is Michael “(Tobi as many of y’all know me by)” Oyedeji..[pronounced Oh-yea-day-G] and I’ll be shooting my updates as much as I can each week as the school year progress. For my first journal entry I’ll like to talk to those kids who feel like they’re not ranked so therefore they should give up on the game they love.. NO, that’s the wrong thing to do. I wasn’t known anywhere around Houston as a freshman and please don’t mention rankings because my name wasn’t even close on the list, but hard work put me in the position me in today!!! So to all y’all incoming freshman this year who feel like y’all should be on varsity, don’t worry y’all get y’all chance to shine.. just make sure when that time comes y’all put in WORK..
Catch y’all boys later.. deuce.. (M.C.C.M.D).. P.S. for those who don’t know what that means, it’s a phrase I came up with that says Men Cannot Control My Destiny.. !.
Shoot me an e-mail if y'all have any questions.. tobioye1@hotmail.com

We have a new writer for our player diary. LJ Rose is one of the most highly touted players in the Houston area. He is ranked in the top 10 nationally in every recruiting publication for the 2012 class. He will be the leader of a Second Baptist squad next season that will be considered one of the top teams in the area. We caught up with the cerebal floor leader in Argentina as he is playing for the USA 16 and under national team.

On June 5th I went to Colorado Springs for USA tryouts. One of my goals was to make the team and play hard. I thought I was really prepared for it because of the time I had been putting in with Lucas. When I got there we had 2 a days that were each 3 hours long for 4 days. It was tough out there because of the altitude. After the 4 days of drills and scrimmaging they made their cuts. I made the team and realized my next goal is to contribute as much as I can to the team for us to win the gold. The people that made it were real happy but we couldnt celebrate for too long because we had practice early in the morning.

While in Aregentina we had many obstacles as a team that we had to face like the culture, food, and language. We realized that all we had was each other and that brought us real close. In our pool we had Brazil, Puerto Rico, and Venezuela. We knew our pool play would be pretty easy but we still had to remain focused. We stayed focused and won each game by 30. Now it was time for bracket play. W had to play the loser between Canada and Argentina. Both teams were pretty talented but Argentina had too much of a home court advantage for Canada and wno in overtime. This meant we had Canada in the semifinals. We knew we had to come in and make a statement and that's what we did. We won by 40.
Editors note: Rose is currently in Argentina, and he will be sending us updates on his progress periodically.

The Westbury Christian was a must see game if u missed it!! The shot went off at the buzzer and it was all net . One ref said that the ball was good and the other ref waved it off. It wouldn't have hurt
the crowd to see overtime in my gym but we should have got the game over a long time before that happened. I missed four free throws during this game and we really needed them and that would have sent them home with a L. Even though we so called lost i still feel like we won because we played as a team and ran our offense really good. But believe me I punished myself and ran and made about 200 hundred free throws.

Well we just got done playing Lamar and they were harder than expected .... I didn't take them lightly but they came ready to play! As a team I thought we played ok but didnt play as hard as Lamar did but we were able to pull through at the end!! The last shot I took to win the game was a good look.. I was about to pass the ball to my teammate Alex cause they doubled teamed me the whole second half ...! There was 10 seconds left and the score was tied but I held the ball and decided to go at 5..... I went by my defender and here came the double team again but I rose over him n faded back for the shot.. It felt good when I released it and I shot it with with confidence! ALL NET!! We won and we are still undefeated.

Done with another tuff district game vs Sam Houston.. First of all, as a TEAM we played good but there is one indivdiual that stepped up during this game. Sam Houston ran a box n 1 on me and a double team on the catch as soon as I passed halfcourt.. This individual was # 32 on Chavez ( EZE AWKARI)!! Their eyes were on me and they forgot that it takes 5 to play basketball not one. The intensity of the game was high from the start and we played real good defense .. All I'm trying to do is make a name for my school and make it to state!! More people need to look at the players on my team and show them love!!! PLEASE!!!
